This is a mechanical water flow meter. It is used to set a limit on the amount of water applied by the irrigation system or other applications. It uses the water flow to power a water wheel and after passing the set amount of water will shut off the flow. Since it is water powered, low water pressure and low flow rate may make it unable to shut off the water at the end of the cycle. It is best to use these at full city or well water pressure and at flow rates above about 3 GPM (gallons per minute).
